Mission
Formulate & Improve Policies and programmes to maintain A Healthy society through Nutrition habits and Lifestyle according to Indigenous Medical concept.
General Objective
The objective of the Department of Indigenous Medicine is to Provide better health care service to the people of Eastern Province by treating with Herbal Medicine.
Specific Objectives
Promote herbal health care activities in all hospitals. Promote herbal awareness health activities. Promote herbal Drug Manufacture. Promote herbal Research activity. Improve herbal health care service through special clinics. To improve the infrastructure Facilities for better Herbal health care service.
Key Functions
Establishment of Ayurvedic Dispensaries and Hospitals and provision of grants to such dispensaries and hospitals.
Establishment of maintenance of herbaria.
Overall administrative responsibilities in respect of the Department of Indigenous Medicine under Ministry of Health.
Establishing of priorities in Development of this sector in production of qualitative medicines, protection of existing herbal flora and cultivation of herbs according to the needs.
Establishing inter-sectoral co-operation with Health Sector, Agriculture Sector and Educational Sector to promote Indigenous Sector.
Conducting mobile Indigenous Health Care activities in remote areas.
