History and Background in very specific

 

Health an essential component of the quality of life positively influences peoples' aspiration and attitudes physical and intellectual potential, social place and prosperity contributing to the overall development process at the same time development factors such as education, income, Housing, Water supply, Sanitation, food & Nutrition Health Care Provisions Etc. determine the level of the health status of the population. in the context of these interactions  Health is recognized as the basic right of the people. It is because of the inherent value of Health and its implications for the quality of life that there is always need and scope for improving Health services especially under the present conflict situation in the Eastern Province. Implementation of the Health Plan has been hampering in several districts.

 

The administration of Health services of the East Province is decentralized into four regions under Deputy Provincial Directors of Health Services. The institutional network links 461 Nos of Health Institutions comprising of Hospitals with specialist services, District Hospitals, Peripheral units, Rural Hospitals, Central dispensaries & Maternity Homes. These Institutions provide patient care services and preventive care services to promote the Health status of the population.

 

There are 10 Nos of Institutions for General Administration, 195 Nos of Preventive care Institutions, 205 Nos of Curative Care Institutions and 16 Nos of Ayurvedic Medical Institutions in EP.

 

There are 60 Nos of MOH Offices and 84 Gramodaya Health centres, responsible for the preventive and promotive aspects of Health care for the people, specially for mothers and children.

 

Presently 16 Ayurvedic Dispensaries are functioning under the Dept of Indigenous Medicine North East Province. In addition, there are 45 Nos of Ayurvedic Medical clinics, which provide Health services to the public through the local authorities.

Implementation of National and Provincial Health Development policies and strategies through co ordination with department of Health & Indigenous Medicine.

 

Objectives

 

1.      Developing  an efficient administration, planning and financial management  systems at  Provincial level during the year 2003-2005

 

2.      Circulate policies among departments and monitoring  the feed back.

 

3.      Strengthen the data bank of Human resources to 100% in 2004.

 

4.      Strengthen the physical infrastructure, medical  supplies & equipments and support services in the under served area.

 

5.      Co-ordinate the sectoral activities with the National /Provincial level Health Institutions.

 

 

PROVINCIAL DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

 

 

MISSION

 

Providing guidance and facilities to strengthen the activities of Health care Providers in NEP.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

1.      To improve the quality of health care services provided in NEP.

2.      To establish and develop Health Surveillance and information system at PDHS and DPDHS.

3.      Strengthen the capacity of the organization.

4.      To improve financial management of the organization.

5.      To Improve inter sectoral   co-ordination with NGOO’s   and other stake holder’s

6.      To provide Primary Health Care services to the returnees and internally displaced population.

7.      To assist in the rehabilitation and Reconstruction process in the Health sector in conflict affected areas of NEP.

8.      To create a happy and  motivated  work force.

 

 

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

 

01.  Improvement of quality of Health Care Services by strengthening, Promotive , Curative, Preventive and Rehabilitation services.

 

02.  Enhancement of health preventive and promotive  programmes by inform and educate the population through the health delivery system to adopt and sustain improved nutritional sanitation and hygienic practices and recognize the early symptoms of common diseases.

 

03.  Better allocation of resources to develop small health institution in the provinces to induce a sustained morbidity and mortality reduction through improved curative services delivery.

 

04.   Strengthening of programmes to solve specific health, population and reproductive health problems pertaining to vulnerable groups.

 

05.  Reduction of Disparities and mal-distribution of health resources.

 

06.  Promote the development of Indigenous medical system
