The 1st Provincial Planning Committee Meeting of EPC for the year 2019 was chaired by the Chief Secretary on 08th July 2019 at 9.30 a.m. at the EPC Conference Hall, Varothayanagar, Trincomalee. District Secretaries of Batticaloa & Ampara , Secretaries , Deputy Chief Secretaries , Heads of Departments & other Seniors officials of EPC and Directors of Planning from three District Administration participated at this meeting.Chief Secretary following his welcome address, sensitively pointed out that the meeting was arranged at the correct time, giving a better flat form to the forum to comfortably discuss on various development matters including current status of the development activities, any shortcoming and remedial solutions with respect to all the capital development programmes being implemented by the Provincial Agencies and as well by District administration.
Discussion on reviving and rebuilding the tourism sector from the affects after the Easter Sunday attack held on 20.06.2019 in Trincomalee with the chairmanship Indika Nalin the Chairman of Eastern Province Tourism Bureau. This was organized by the Eastern Province Tourism Bureau under the guidance of its General Manager Mr. A.S.M. Fayis.
The first meeting of the District Development Forum of Trincomalee Distict was held under the chairmanship of new Governor for Eastern Province, Hon.Shan Wijayalal De Silva on 18.06.2019 at District Secretariat, Trincomalee.
This forum was initiated by the new Governor, with an intention to speed up the progress of the capital development activities being carried out by the various stakeholders including provincial and district administration in the district with mutual understanding and better collaboration among every entity.
An Engineering Material Testing Laboratory unit was opened on 13.06.2019 at Urban Council, Trincomalee by Eastern Province Housing Authority (EPHA) in collaboration with Urban Council, Trincomalee according to the MOU signed between EPHA and UC, Trincomalee on the same day. This is a remarkable achievement in EPHA’s history and a long felt want too. This unit will carry out all tests to ensure the quality of all building materials at a reasonable cost. All revenue from this venture will be utilized for EPHA’s future development activities and to incur other expenditures without depending on the Consolidated Fund. At this event Secretary-Chief Ministry, Chairman-EPHA, General Manager-EPHA, DCS-Planning, DCS-Finance, Provincial Director of Buildings Department and Secretary-Urban Council, Trincomalee were also presented.
Former Southern Province Chief Minister Hon.Shan Wijayalal De Silva assumed duties as the new Eastern Province Governor at Governor Secretariat, Trincomalee on Monday (10-06-2019).
Eastern Province Chief Secretary Mr.D.M.Sarath Abayagunawardana. Ministry Secretaries and Department Heads were also present in this Occasion.
One day Training Programme on Role of the Drivers in Public Service was conducted by MDTU for Sinhala medium Drivers on 31 May 2019 at MDTU Auditorium, Trincomalee. Mr.D.H.Priyantha, Secretary (Pradeshiya Sabha – Kanthale) was served as the Resource Person of this Training Programme.
Training Programmes on Public Relations & Communications Skills were conducted by MDTU for Sinhala medium OES on 27 May 2019 and 28 May 2019 at MDTU Auditorium, Trincomalee and at Co-op Learning Hall, Ampara respectively. Mr. W.A.D.H.Kanchana, Assistant Secretary (Ministry of Defense) has been served as the Resource Person of these Training Programme.
To enhance the capacity of ICT Officers and equip them with current technologies, The MDTU has introduced a new training programme on Android app Development. A three days training Programme on this was conducted by MDTU in English medium from 29 May 2019 to 31 May 2019 at MDTU ICT Lab, Trincomalee. Mr.T.Sunthararajah, Development Officer (DCS (P&T) – PICT Unit) was served as the Resource Person of this Training Programme.
A 150 meter lengthy concrete road was declared open on 09.05.2019 at Irrakamam in Ampara District for public utilization. This concrete road was constructed under “Isolated and Underserved Village Development Programme” at the cost of Rs.1.5 million. At this opening ceremony Secretary of Chief Ministry, Director-Planning of Chief Ministry, Director of Department of Rural Development and several officials were also participated.
A village level discussion to identify and prioritize the village people’s needs was held at RDS Building Koththiyapulla village in Vavunatheevu Divisional Secretary division on 28.05.2019. This discussion was arranged by District Rural Development Officer of Batticaloa and held under the chairmanship of Mr.R.Neduncheliyan, Director Planning of Chief Ministry-EP. At this discussion people’s immediate needs were focused and their feedbacks for successful implementation of this programme were also taken into consideration.
The Regional Director for UNICEF South Asia Ms.Jean Gough together with Mr.Tim Sutton,Representative for UNICEF Sri Lanka and his team visited EPC, Trincomalee on 29th May 2019 to discuss the “Citizen Budget” initiative with the EPC and the overall education status of children in the Province.
The Discussion was held under Chairmanship of Chief Secretary at the Conference Hall of Chief Secretary’s Office. The Deputy Chief Secretary –Planning, Secretary of Ministry of Education and Senior Offices from Provincial Planning Secretariat, Ministry of Education and UNICE Regional Office participated at the meeting.
