Livestock Development Officers play an important role in livestock development through provision of livestock extension services to livestock farmers of the province. In this regard 12 nos of Livestock Development Officers were recruited into service at Department of Animal Production and Health Eastern Province.
A ceremony was held at the Governor’s Secretariat Trincomalee on 26th March 2019(Wednesday) to hand over the appointment letters to newly appointed Livestock Development Officers. Hon M.L.A.M Hizbullah Governor of Eastern Province graced the function as Chief Guest while Mr. D.M.Sarath Abayagunawardana Chief Secretary Eastern Province, Mr. Asanka Abeywardena Secretary to Hon Governor, Mr K Sivanathan Secretary Ministry of Agriculture and other senior officials participated in it.
Teacher appointment was given to 349 graduate by Hon. M. L. A. M. Hizbullah on 26th of March 2019 at T/Orr's Hill Vivehananda College. 278 - Sinhala Medium Teachers, 07 - Bilingual_ Sinhala Medium Teachers, 07 - Tamil Medium Teachers (B.Ed) , 57 - Bilingual Tamil Medium Teachers.
The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) in collaboration with the Eastern Provincial Council is implementing numerous national reconciliation programs in affected areas in Eastern Province to restore livelihood through increasing access to rural economic activities.
In this regard a ceremony was held in Salappaiaru Kuchchaveli D.S Division on 27th March 2019 to distribute livelihood inputs in productive economic sectors such as livestock and fisheries.
The ceremony to commission the Lift Irrigation Scheme in Kaluthavalai area in Batticaloa District was held on 15th March 2019 .This scheme was constructed utilizing Rs 10.0 Mn made available under Irrigation Sector Development in Province Specific Development Grant of Eastern Province. The overall objective of this development intervention is to create an enabling environment to promote the sustainable use of available water resources to agriculture development leading to balanced socio economic development of this region. It is envisaged a total of 450 acres of paddy land could be brought under cultivation in both Maha and Yala cultivation season through supplementary irrigation while high value crops could be cultivated utilizing the irrigation water made available under this scheme.
Under the guidance of Hon. Governor, a documentary film about Tourism in Eastern province has been released by Tourism Bureau Eastern Province to promote tourism and increase tourist arrivals in Eastern Province.
This documentary film include nearly 45 tourist places in Eastern Province and it has 17 minutes of running time.
A ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Agriculture on 14th March 2019 to handover the value addition and refrigeration equipment’s to nine registered co-operative societies including schools as well as dairy and fisheries societies to enhance the service delivery focusing on food and nutrition enhancement of local community.
A ceremony to hand over the letters of appointment to newly appointed 12 Technical Assistants (Agriculture –Extension) of Department of Agriculture Eastern Province was held at the Governor’s Secretariat Trincomalee on 6th of March 2019. These agriculture extension officers will be deployed in all three districts of Eastern Province and will be involved in dissemination of improved technologies and agriculture practices among farmers leading to increased production and productivity.
One day Training Programme on Positive thinking & Personality Development was conducted by MDTU for Tamil medium OES on 05 March 2019 at MDTU Auditorium, Trincomalee. Mr.Thurairajah Prashanthan, Consultant – Learning & Development was served as the Resource Person of this Training Programme.
Under the guidance of our Honorable Governor Dr. M.L.A.M. Hizbullah, Eastern Province Tourism Bureau has organized an International event named “Raid Amazones -2019” to ensure the tourist attraction towards Eastern Province. This event will be taken place from 23rd March to 31st March in the East coast particularly in Pasikudah, Thoppigala and Kalkudah area with the support of Tri forces.
Management Development Training Unit has organized a special workshop on Personality Development for Executive Officials on 28 February 2019 at National Inland fisheries & Aquaculture Training Institute – Kalawewa under the DCS (P&T) provincial level capacity development fund. Mr. Samantha Rathnayake, Management Consultant, Postgraduate Institute of Management University of Sri Jayewardenepura has served as the Resource Person of this workshop. Chief Secretary, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Secretaries, Department Heads and several senior officials were participated in this event.
A handing over ceremony of garment factories constructed at Seethanaveli and Veeramunai in Muthur and Sammanthurai Divisional Secretariat Divisions respectively were officially handed over to Hameedia Cloth Stores Pvt (Ltd) on 2019.02.01 at Chief Ministry, Eastern Province. These two garment factories are constructed under Balance Regional Development Programme (BRDP) in 2018 to provide job opportunities to the unemployed youths. At this occasion Director Planning and Chief Accountant of Chief Ministry and Provincial Director, Department of Rural Industries were also attended.
