Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a viral disease of cattle and buffaloa typically characterized by nodules or lumps on the skin. A new virus has been first reported from Northern Province among cattle and spread to many parts of the country. Pocket outbreaks were notified all over the country and susceptibility much higher in cattle than buffaloes. Other species of livestock have not been affected by this viral disease.
Hon. Minister of Livestock Farm Promotion and Dairy and Egg related Industries have directed to form reginal level dairy farmer organizations in all 46 veterinary ranges of the Eastern Province in order to make access to dairy farmers in decision making process on dairy industry. Regional dairy farmer organization named " Aayar Kulam” ( ஆயர்குலம், ආයර්කුලම් ) was formed in Karadiyanaru with the participation of farmers on 08th January 2021.
