As per the policy taken by the Government, usage of organic fertilizer was made compulsory for the cultivation. Hence, the quality compost to be supplied for the farmers is a must. But there were no compost testing laboratories to check quality for the following elements such as N, P, K, PH, EC and organic content of the compost produced by the farmers.
Hence, Honorable Governor Anuradha Yahampath has taken steps to establish Compost Testing Laboratory in three districts under “*Thirasara Krushisanskruthiya”* Organic Agriculture Development Programme. The equipment and other required items were purchased approximately for the worth of Rs.60 Mn.
As a first step, Compost Testing Laboratory located in ISTI, Karadiyanaru for Batticaloa District was officially opened by Hon.Governor of the EP on 30th August 2022. Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Secretary to the Governor, Provincial Director of Agriculture, Planning Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Deputy Director Agriculture (Ext), Batticaloa and other officers participated along with Eastern University academies in this event.
