Eastern Provincial Council has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Industrial Technology Institute on 27th December 2021 to jointly establish and operate an ISO certified laboratory to analyze organic produce/food samples in Eastern Province and elsewhere. The objective of the MOU will comprise providing technical assistance for designing of building infrastructure and requisite equipment and machinery along with technical assistance for optimal functioning of the planned laboratory. The MOU also examines the avenues for obtaining ISO standards for the proposed laboratory and developing the operational guidelines for its optimal functioning.
In this context a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Mr D.M.L Bandaranayake Chief Secretary Eastern Province on behalf of the Eastern Provincial Council while Prof (Mrs) Radhika Samarasekare Director General Industrial Technology Institute signed on behalf of Industrial Technology Institute.
Hon Anuradha Yahampath Governor of Eastern Province and Dr G.A.S.Premakumara Chairman Industrial Technology Institute graced the event of signing the Memorandum of Understanding.
Through this partnership, Eastern Provincial Council and the Industrial Technology Institute aim to support and facilitate the provision of requisite technical consultancy services to establish, operate and manage the state of art Organic Produce Testing Laboratory in Kantale Trincomalee District leading to analysis of organic produce for their nutrient content and levels of inorganic residues thereby, assure the accrued health benefits producers might claim and assure consumers that the products they are purchasing, often at premium prices, are authentically organic.
